RC/L Elementary Library Receives New Look
Last spring the project of painting murals on the libraries walls began. The teachers and students suggested books and characters for the murals. The PTO purchased the paint for the project. Diane Vavak designed the murals and began painting the murals, putting many hours of hard work into the project and finished the project in time for the Open House at the beginning of the school year.
Smidt Hired As New City Clerk

Kelly Smidt has been hired as Rockwell City’s new city clerk. Kelly and her husband Aaron live in Rockwell City with their two children, Bryce and Madysen. Kelly has a BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Wayne State College. She has worked as a Real Estate Office Manager for First Gabrielson Agency in Belmond and for 8 ˝ years as the Operations Manager at Al’s Corner Oil Co. City Hall will be holding a Community Coffee at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 10th so the community can come to city hall to meet Kelly.
Hepp Receives 2008 All Iowa Opportunity Scholarship

Governor Chet Culver announced that 627 incoming Iowa college freshman and sophomores will receive the All Iowa Opportunity Scholarship. "I ran for Governor to expand access to college and to make it easier for students like those here today to make their dreams a reality" said Governor Chet Culver. The Governor made the announcement at the State Capitol, and was joined by more than 20 recipients of the 2008 All Iowa Opportunity Scholarship Governor Culver called for the creation, and signed into law the all Iowa Opportunity scholarship last year during the his first legislative session in office. During the 2007/2008 school year , 189 students received an All Iowa Opportunity Scholarship that averaged $5,000/student. This year, Governor Culver called for and received $4 million for the program, which will help 627 Iowa students meet their college expenses with an average award of $5,083. This scholarship can be used to pay for tuition, room, board, and/or books.1,795 student applications were received and 627 were awarded.
